Barong and Bow Tie

So I really don't like wearing Barong Tagalog I know it's a Filipino formal wear and that I should wear one too since I'm a full blooded pinoy but Barong's doesn't suit me well. Last friday, May 17 I had to make an exemption.
The month of May is the month of flowers hence it is called "Flores de Mayo". It's a tradition here in the Philippines wherein we offer flowers to Mama Mary at the church's altar and in our province that is an annual thing.
Each barangay/street name is assigned two Cabecillo's and Cabecilla's. They are the one who is responsible for the color motif , they are the one who asks their kapwa kabaranggay na mag-alay, and sila din yung nagbibigay ng snacks after ng alay. (I'm after the snacks that's why I volunteered as an escort! Lol joke lang guys!)
So to make the long story short, a friend of mine asked me to be her escort, at first I was hesitant because that means I have to wear Barong and walk/parade in our town but I didn't had a choice since I don't want her to go alone.
Since barong doesn't suit me I used my styling power to make it work.

I used my DIY Bow tie necklace to add some details on my look

DIY Tank Top

So who's ready to party tomorrow at the Close Up Summer Solstice? Do you have an outfit ready for tomorrow? If you don't have anything yet let me help you with that.
When going to an event you should know the theme first. You don't want to be the odd man out don't you? Since it's called the Summer Solstice you should wear a summery outfit.
Second, know where the venue is. The Summer Solstice is going to be held at MOA Concert Grounds. It's on open ground so expect that it's going to be hot. Third, always check the weather outside. If you see any clouds forming expect a downpour so you should prepare for something that will keep you dry. But hey, it's the Summer Solstice rain or shine the party continues! Imagine, dancing to the beats of Afrojack, Cobra Starship, Dev, Cedric Gervais, etc, while raining. Not that I'm wishing for it to rain. Hehe!

Anyways, since it's summer already why not wear a tank top? Tank tops are very trendy now.
If you don't own any, let me try help you by making your very own DIY TANK TOP.
I'll try to narrow down the steps, kill me if you don't understand the steps. First thing first, what you're going to need are: An old shirt, a tank top and just a pair of scissors. I apologize if I forgot to take pictures while I work on the DIY, it'll be easier if pics were taken. My fault. I just hope you understand my instructions. hehe!

1st Lay down your shirt flatly on an even surface. make sure that there are no creases
2nd Put your tank top on top of the shirt. We will use the tank top as a pattern.
3rd Using the tank top as a pattern, cut off the sleeves of the shirt. Or you could draw a mark on your shirt from the pattern of the tank top, then cut.
4th After the sleeves have been cut off, next is the neck line. Cut it low or whatever. It depends on how short or long you want the neck line should be. And Voila!

I know how lame I wrote the instructions, it's just that I'm not good at giving directions. Well I hope it helps. If you can't really understand my the instructions above, you can always email me at johngool@rocketmail.com. I'm happy to help.
So now you have a tank top ready to wear, what about for your bottoms? You can pull off any look with a tank top.
A walking shorts is perfect but if you prefer pants, use denim. Well it doesn't matter what type of fabric it is but be sure to pair you tank tops with a skinny or slim pants. Then rock it with a pair of loafers or vans or even leather shoes. Then get a hold of yourself with accessories then you're good to go.

Here is the photo of the Tank top that I made earlier today.

The tip about making a DIY TANK TOP is by picking the right shirt. Pick the one that has great designs. It will look great, I promise! I hope this post helps. See you at the Summer Solstice!

DIY Week

It has been too long since I last posted something. Well to tell you the truth I have been staring at a blank page for quite some time now. Everytime I hand the pen and make it work none of the words seems right for the paper.
I have been having a writers block.
Was about to post earlier this week but I didn't know what to post so I just didn't posted any. I had a movie review, style review and even food reviews in my mind. Blame the so called writers block for not blogging those brilliant topics.
Okay, moving on. Last sunday (February 17,2013) my cousin asked for my help. I was more than willing to help since it was an art project. Hey I love doing art since I was a kid, it's the only thing I excell at (I really stink at everything especially dancing!).
My cuz and I have to make this flower kind wall decor out of tissue rolls (the tube that holds the tissue).
It was easy actually. Haha! Ang yabang lang eh. But it is really just easy.
I won't be detailing it any further since it's not the tissue rolls I'm going to tell you guys.
After with that brilliant DIY project, nacurious ako sa iba pang mga DIY. My curiosity is telling me to search for more creative DIY that I can make.
So I scoured Google and ended up with a nice Bow tie made of strips of fabrics.
Luckily I have this "retaso" from my old walking shorts that I ripped off.
The process is just so easy. You can do it in just 10mins or more.
It involves cutting and sewing. I don't know how to tell you the procedures. It's best to watch a video instead too bad I don't have on but I bet Youtube has it. (Crossfingers!)
While I was doing my project I had a tough time. It's not as easy as it looks like. The Stitching part is hell! Just joking guys! But I'm not good at stitching so I had a little bit of problem.
At the bottom is the end product of my DIY Bow Tie Necklace!
I can't wait to wear it. With the Bow Tie Necklace, you can always look a bit formal even in a streetwear or basic looks.
I'm going to post some pics of me wearing it in a not so formal outfit, not later than this week so watch out for it!
